L'chaim! A contemporary look at life cycle ceremonies in Jewish tradition

You are invited to participate in a series of in-depth meetings on the Jewish ceremonies that accompany the cycle of life: circumcision, bar/bat mitzvah, marriage, divorce, and funeral – these are significant life events, marked in Jewish tradition by ceremonies with unique structures, texts, and language.

In this series, we ask:
What is actually said during the ceremony? What is the role of the text? What actions accompany the ceremony? What is the role of the community? To what extent are these ceremonies relevant and meaningful to our lives today?

In each session, we will delve into one ritual: we will learn about its origins, its structure, the blessings and texts it contains, and the values and human meanings it conveys.

Each meeting will host a professional who deals with rituals as part of their work, bringing a lively and practical perspective. In addition, part of each meeting will be devoted to open discussion and sharing of participants' personal experiences regarding the place of rituals in our personal and community lives.

The series will open with an introductory session dealing with the essence of the ceremony: its characteristics, its components, and its role in moments of transition and change in a person's life.

11.3 – Bar/Bat Mitzvah Ceremony: With Rabbi Esteban Gottfried
25.3 – Wedding ceremony: with Tamar Gur Krause
15.4 – Divorce ceremony: with Rabbi Shlomo Zakrov
29.4 – Funeral ceremony: with Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman

The meetings will take place in the Israeli House of Prayer office building, in the "Bafnuch" space – 9 Itamar Ben Avi Street, Tel Aviv.
Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Cost of the series (6 sessions)

For members of the Israeli Operations House, 180 NIS

For the general public: 300 NIS

Cost per session:
